I haven’t really been paying much attention to the ins and outs of the local Meningicoccal B vaccination program that’s kicked off. I just figured it had to be done, regardless.

Of late there’s been a little bit of chat about it online – enough to make me wonder a little bit. Not so much about whether or not we should get the girls immunised (a parental and public duty in my opinion) but what the side effects were going to be like. Russell Brown catalogues some bad cases; and it seems that Karl and Shelly haven’t had a lot of fun with young Marcus judging by Karl’s quote on Russell Brown’s followup.

But after reading the Medsafe information sheet (and talking to our paediatrician cousin – thanks Jo!) it seemed to me that the likely reactions were all things we’d encountered before on previous immunisations: bad sleeping, grumpiness etc etc, with a fairly low likelihood of anything worse.

Here’s hoping, anyway. Bella (4.5) and Rosa (2) got their jabs today. Becky gave them some Pamol before the shots, and they’ve had some more since… and but for complaints of sore arms they’re fine so far. The big test will be tonight – with luck they’ll sleep through OK.

Elliot got a bit of a fever the following day. In the afternoon he actaully wanted to go to bed and sleep. He was fine again by dinner.

Same for us. Some grumps and tantrums, but no more than usual really.

And so far, the same for us too.

Both girls slept all night. Bella is absolutely fine this morning, but her younger sister is still a bit tender and grizzly.

My nephew (5) has to have 3 vaccinations.. is that right? He’s not keen at all. He brought the information home to his mum and stressed to her, “But you don’t have to have it.”

No kid would have these if they could avoid it. There are three of these ones – and we’ve already laid in a stock of chocolate mini-muffins from City New World as treats for our brave girls after jabs II and III.

Our boys seemed fine but have both had flu post-jab – but I figure that’s just the time of year – their mother’s had it worst of all and she didn’t go near a MeNZB!

Yes Alan, it’s been 3 1/2 months, but that’s okay as we’ve been meaning to come and see you guys too. So mutual guilt!

Jack was stabbed this afternooon and no reaction at all – as of yet. He loved the sweets (lollys), balloon, bubbles and sticker. In fact the sticker was the favourite but if he vould have read it it wouldn’t have been – “2 more to go”, what a threat!

It is pretty mean having to have 3 sets of two injections. I’d hate to have that many injections, and my arms are a lot bigger too!

I’ve been asked (by mates) to watch for “flu-type” symptoms 5 days after his stabbing as they’ll be getting there wee man done a week or so before flying. They’ve head on their own parent-grapevine that that’s the most common side-effect.

    We’ll see

We haven’t even had the flu-type symptoms. The girls have had light colds, but that’s not probably not attributable to the immunisation, given the time of the year.
