you're too stupid to be an atheist
Thanks to Martha, I was turned on to John Safran vs. God. Which was a jolly good thing, because I haven’t laughed so much in ages.
I’m still (nervously) chuckling about the bit where he visits Sheikh Omar Bakri to ask for a fatwa against Rove. Bakri’s a well dodgy bloke, having started several extremist Islamic groups, some with ties to those four men from Leeds. He’s gone into hiding since the bombings.
But was Bakri playing along with the Safran’s joke? I think he might have been. Even fanatics can have a sense of humour.
Which shouldn’t be disturbing, but somehow is.

John Safran was on Campbell last week. He said it was all a bit awkward when he had to ask Bakri to sign a disclosure form – and Bakri laughingly held up his hooks – and Safran said it was all a bit scarily convivial.
It is actually well worth getting the DVDs out, because there is some good extra footage.
