listening
Far be it from me to suggest that Bella never listens to a word we say. It only seems like it.
All Becky and I do, after all, is nag nag nag. We give a lot of pointless and over-paranoid warnings. And we try to regulate our kids behaviour far too closely. All to little effect… or so we thought.
But no. Credit where credit is due, I say. Bella proved to me today that she does listen carefully.
She’d been wandering around outside with bare feet (no, don’t say it, put your inner parent away please). And I happened to notice that our lovely and sharp stainless steel garden spade had been shifted from the vege garden some distance to lie on a concrete path.
Bella saw me look at the spade, and then look at her.
“It’s OK Dad”, she said. “I haven’t chopped any of my toes off.”

You remember how Henry used to take over at leto, er, and make everything sound a thousand times more interesting than any of us adults could make it?
It’s only a matter of time until your little ones take over around here. If they haven’t already… :)

It would certainly make things more interesting, that’s for sure.

I daresay she’ll let you know straight away if she does…

Cripes, my Dad used to threaten me with exactly that – unplanned phalangectomy.
And he had the missing toe joint to prove it. To this day I never dig in jandals.

Yeah, my Dad used to tell me the same thing. And no doubt, in 30 years time, our daughters will be scaring the shit out of their kids with the same thing…
