time-sucking waste
Yeah, into the hole I went.
Freeciv is one of those things that I get sucked into, obsessively moving little units around and building an imaginary empire.
I like the building best, especially railways; I really dislike the warfare and diplomacy parts and generally try to ignore them. And I’ve never bothered with the multiplayer online stuff at all.
I only play it every couple of years and burn myself out after about three days.
As I have, just now. My settlers are in Alpha Centauri. It’s 1986. It’s over.
That’s my obsessive nerd behaviour done with for now. No wait: here I am writing a blog entry about it. Not done with yet after all…

They’re probably not doing Freeciv. I suspect.

Oh no, you’re not telling me blogging is uncool are you? I thought it is what all the thirty-somethings who are too busy to coordinate actual social lives are doing. Oh well, out with the Freeciv then.

I never got into civ. SimCity is my game. Every now and then I will get that out and build a vast city with a fabulous train network.
Now when you say “I only play it every couple of years”. You actually mean. “I play it several times a year”
Right???!!

I like SimCity too, and usually overinvest in railways and undergrounds. I’ve never had a legit copy of that, and haven’t had a copy of it for a long time now. But my experiences with that parallel Civ.
And I do only play Civ every couple of years.
