speed dial eight
After Friday, we have a fair idea of who, and how, our Telecom bill came to have a false 111 call on it. After a couple of these they start to fine you, so at the time the bill arrived we went pretty crook at Bella.
But it turns out that it most likely wasn’t her.
On Friday afternoon Becky returned to the kitchen from doing some work through the house. Rosa was sitting at the table in her usual spot, which is not far from the telephone.
“I’ve been talking to Grandad Pete”, she said.
She’s an imaginative wee thing, so nothing much was thought of this until a little while later, when the phone rang. It was my father (Grandad Pete). He was worried. Down on the farm he’d had picked up the phone and had a lovely conversation with his Granddaughter, who initially seemed quite bemused to be talking to the real Grandad Pete. She’d probably played with the phone many times without actually finding someone on the other end.
After some time, he asked where Becky was.
“She’s in the bedroom”, said Rosa.
“What’s she doing”, said my father.
“She’s lying on the floor”, said Rosa, now just making something up on the spot.
After the conversation ended, my father and mother had a bit of a conference. Could Becky be in trouble? Just in case, they called, and that’s how we got to find out about Rosa’s telephone skills.
Now we need to do the stern talk about telephones, and teach that balancing act between absolute proscription of the phone and being OK to use it in emergencies.
Bella gets it… but I’m not sure how well a two-and-a-half year old will.

Aww I think that’s cute, in a not so good way! ;-)
Yeah that could be bit of a challenge getting that message through to a 2 and 1/2 year old. – Smart kid though, I couldn’t use the phone at all at that age!

I’ve always thought that it would be better if the emergency phone number was
314159265358979
Easy to remember, but unlikely to be accidentally dialled
;-)

Easy for nerds, Ben. Like you and me. Everyone else might find that a little tricky…

It’d be a reasonable method of population control however.*
* Not that I’m suggesting that’d be a good idea or anything.
