This is half-pie.

when art critics attack

I’ve tried my hand at art crit this evening over on Wellingtonista.

I must be doing OK – just look at the words I managed to squeeze in:

  • “hyperreal”
  • “naïve”
  • “ironic”
  • “chimæric”

But I’m thinking I’ve missed an opportunity to go all out po-mo and start randomly inserting impressive words like:

  • “context”
  • “situated”
  • “praxis” (what does that mean, BTW?)
  • “gaze”
  • “heterogeneity”
  • “texts”
  • “deconstruct”
  • “hegemonic”

But I’ve forgotten how to do it. Probably just as well, really.

Chuck “biomorphic” in there and you’ve got an art history degree.

What about “phallocentric” though (that’s probably just an NCEA standard word these days)?

Well this is like a whole another language to me… Learning French is easier!
