PHD
At work I wasn’t up to much. Work was done, though not with joy.
It’s totally down to what Doctors call PHD, or Post Holiday Disorder1.
PHD is a state of mind characterised by irrational grumpiness; excessive sarcasm; a lack of communication; and a questioning of one’s reasons for working in the first place. I spared the people around me the worst of it by getting lost in a Sigur Rós jag for most of the day.
And so I was certainly not fit to assist the Bowlingtonista this evening, although I still covet a team t-shirt.
So it’s nice to have another day off tomorrow. The mere thought has put me in a better frame of mind: that and the bottle of late harvest Becky found in the spare room and we are sharing while she watches Dancing with the Stars and I finally implement gravatars on halfpie.net.
Tomorrow, in between explaining the horrors of war to the eldest (out of earshot of the youngest), I’ll be reading some more of the very interesting biography of Peter Kropotkin; perhaps some usage of the Wii; and a spot of relaxation with the family.
Then to work again on Thursday. Bah!
1 That and the fact that while I was away little appears to have been done towards an immovable deadline occurring on Monday. But then, as someone wisely pointed out to me today, “What! You came back from holiday and found that no-one had done your work for you!”

I totally understand that. I had it coming in to work on Monday, and I’d only had 4 days (plus a weekend) off.
Ok, so I moved countries, and didn’t have a reliable network connection in the office for the first two days, and I really miss my 20” LCD, and the network is of the “Total Lockdown Until Stuff is Allowed Out” variety. Grr!
Oh, and I see you have gravatars on. Cool :) I really need to implement a better “user didn’t have one” one, or maybe have an option for OpenID users to say “I have one, use it” or not.

It takes me a long time to figure out this stuff – I mean, I knew what a gravatar was, I just couldn’t be bothered with the (small) effort involved. Plus only recently do they seem to be hosted in a stable way.
At this rate I calculate it will be 2009 before I get OpenID sorted out so I can comment on your blog. :-)
At least, despite missing the 20” LCD, you’ve got a good job in the UK. There’s nothing worse than having to look while your funds ebb ever lower. Now you can easily take a weekend in Prague etc etc.

“irrational grumpiness; excessive sarcasm; a lack of communication”
Wait, this is a disorder? Sounds like my everyday self.

Perhaps you need a holiday then. PHD could well be pre Holiday Disorder for you.
Nice Tumblr site too. I considered getting one… but I have enough difficulty managing this site without getting myself another.

I’ve decided it will make a nice training ground as I attempt to get back into The Way of the Blog. And with no comments I don’t have to worry about my intermittent connectivity stalling potential conversations.

Feel free to leave any and all comments here. Goodness knows the place could do with a bit of livening up!
