This is half-pie.

My Other Stuff...

…being made up of a combination of parts of my Flickr stream; recent wines reviewed on Corkscore; my Blippr reviews; and blip.fm blips, this reads a little like a list of recent obsessions.

Which is it, in a way…

Matawhero Gewürztraminer 2009

87 points - Nice pale yellow in the glass, and all the usual scents you'd expect. A sort of medium-dry in the mouth, but yet with a really mouth-filling, thick texture. Acidic end provides balance. Nice.

Tasted on Sun, Aug 29, 2010.

Judge Rock St Laurent 2009

88 points - Lovely dark red in colour, some nice plum on the nose. It's fruity but restrained, if that makes sense, and is nicely balanced with a dash of acid and tannin. Coming across like a less overbearing Pinot Noir, I'm thinking this is much more of a wine to match with food than many of its Central Otago cousins.

Rosemount Estate Diamond Label Shiraz 2008

84 points - The usual dark Aussie shiraz in the glass, peppery nose. (I am in need of more adjectives... or could it be this wine does not inspire them?) Though reasonably balanced, it is a little bland but still better than the '07.

Tasted on Fri, Aug 20, 2010.

Hudson Vineyard Mokopuna Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008

86 points - Pale yellow. Intense nose of pineapples, and even something my imagination named as “bubblegum”. Acidic, but I suppose not unusually so for a Sauvignon Blanc. Sweetish. Not bad—I should try more non-Marlborough examples.

Tasted on Tue, Aug 10, 2010.

Penfolds Thomas Hyland Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

86 points - Red, thick, tannic. Quite fruity initially, but fades under a rush of tannins. I think I need to clean my teeth now.

Tasted on Fri, Aug 6, 2010.

Montana Reserve South Island Pinot Noir 2009

86 points - Red with a little brown, fruity with a little pepper. Pretty much consistent with the '08. In other words: good, but don't overpay.

Tasted on Fri, Aug 6, 2010.

Blackboard Wines Cellar 9 East Coast Pinot Gris 2008

84 points - Yellow. Pineappley, very fruity. But also very sweet. Drinkable.

Tasted on Fri, Jul 30, 2010.

Craggy Range Gimblett Gravels Vineyard Merlot 2005

91 points - Plum coloured. Peppery and strong, thick and almost toffee-ish, a very appropriate follow-on from the Pisa Range Pinot we had earlier. I had always thought Craggy Range was over-hyped, but this wine has put paid to that idea! Like the Pisa Range Pinot though, this is not a casual drinking wine.

Tasted on Sat, Jul 24, 2010.

Matahiwi Estate Wairarapa Pinot Noir 2008

89 points - Lovely dark colour. Cherry fruit on the nose. Thick & concentrated, no lightweight. A touch of bitterness and quite a lot of oak at the end, perhaps a smidge too much. But still, a very nice Wairarapa Pinot Noir, and outstanding at this price.

1996_size50 Beautifully written, short but fulfilling, this is a great story about what it might mean to be a magician. Fantasy, yes, but grounded in character & humanity. =D

Finally, a track that makes sense of both the Chili Peppers & Notorious AT THE SAME TIME.
